A Teddy Bear's Christmas Guernsey's 1997
Christmas issue picturing the Guernsey Teddy is the underlying theme of this article about
a recent trip to Guernsey by CPC member Suzanne Yankowski. Suzanne's real life experience
with the Guernsey teddy is told in the Yule Log's leading feature article. Suzanne was
given a sneak preview of the stamps while touring the main postal office.
Bonne Annee - Happy New Year 1996 Ken Mackenzie
Writer's Award winner, George H. Rohrer relates some of the French Christmas Holiday
traditions including the panorama of lights of the Champs-Elysees as shown on the wide
4.40 franc French stamp. (Scott #2449)
A New Collection: "Christmas In..."Christina
Howland describes some of the items in her Christmas pictorial cancel collection and
suggests the possibilities of forming a new collection "Christmas in....".
Christmas in Comfort Station, Christmas in April Station and Christmas in July Station are
illustrated and the significance of each cancel is described.
AFDCS Holiday Cover Details about obtaining the
American First Day Cover Society's court of honor Christmas cacheted cover are given. The
cachet shows Santa coming out of a chimney with the words "Season's Greetings"
above him.
'Round the World Christmas Covers Member
Richard L. Beecher begins a new column looking at some of the interesting covers in his
collection. Cover shown this issue shows the precancelled version of the US 1970 toy stamp
used August 6, 1971. A postage due marking had been added.(in error...) A Postal Service
directive advising mailers they would no longer be able to use the stamps after Jan. 31,
1971 was followed by public protest. The Postal Service rescinded the directive.
Christmas Philatelic Club Auction - Mary Turner
and Richard Sartor describe 100 lots of Christmas philatelic material, including stamps,
souvenir sheets, FDCs, covers, Santa Reply letters, Canada Post Christmas items, Ship
covers, miscellaneous seal items, Club covers, cancellations and some miscellaneous
Christmas collectibles.
