THE SOURCE OF PEACE
Peace I leave with you (Joh 14:27)
We are waiting for you!

Thought stimulation  -  hints for those who decide to write a paper, to be co-organizer or to be patron

Power: limitation, formation, determination of freedom.

Peace: - calmness and welfare; where solitude is achieved, there is peace.
- a balance of forces of power, that is a balance of the limitation and toleration of freedom.
- a harmony of the self-sacrificing love and defending truth.
- a gift from God, and not a balance of forces influencing humans.

If we think of peace as balance of power forces, the life is unavoidable a continuous fight between glorifying and opposing the power. These search for a middle way grounded on a still endurable balance of the forces. On the other hand in the power monarchy, somebody as a represent of God on Earth, centrally dictates the limitation of spaces of freedom, what leads to destruction of culture. Humanism wants to eliminate the inhuman forms of violence and force. For this reason they eliminated the blood feud for example.

Justice: give me what is mine, and then I give you what is yours.
Love: what is mine that is yours too.

The duty to follow the truth requires, that everybody receives to what they have the right. But this distributing system is more and more complicated because of the constant narrowing of our free space. This practically leads to a communal selfishness and majority rule, it applies force result in fighting back of the out-driven.

Love enables us to give up what is due to us and tolerate the rule of others. It voluntarily gives us an advance based on hope, but it can't to give up speaking out for truth. In this way love emphasizes the justice of truth, but limits and rules it.

In the Christian teaching, Christ realizes the peace between God and humans. The peacefulness is a unity of God and humans. Endeavouring for peace is an activity for the kingdom of God.

Questions

- What is the foundation and nature of peace?
- How do the different layers of peace (divine, power, personal) relate to each other?
- How can human endeavours for peace, if they themselves don't possess an inner peace?
- What kind of power fight can we undertake for peace?
- Can humanism be the common foundation for the peace movement of believers and unbelievers?
- Where is the place of peace between the ideologies of curse and glorification of power?
- Is it possible to create peace through justice and through giving up the violence?
- Would it mean the dominion of limitless power, if we attempt to cease fighting?
- Where is the harmony between the self-sacrificing love and defend the truth?
- How can love limit the endeavour for individual or communal justice?
- Is peace the gift of God?

Arguable sentences, or propose new ones:

- Only those can live in peace with fellow human beings, who live in peace with God and themselves. (Karl Rahner)

- First find your own peace, then you can pacify others. (Thomas Kempis)

- The inner peace of the heart is more valuable than ruling the whole cosmos. (Younginer J.M.)

- Peace consists in the balance of military force and power deterrence.

- To curse the power is a call to fight, to change the situation. To glorify the power is a call to fight too, to defend the situation. Is balance possible between them when the world is in constant movement?

- People could only be themselves, if  - instead of withdrawing behind their walls -  they would seek for encounters with others, whose existence is just as mysterious as theirs. They can only find themselves, if they constantly approach each others. (Gabriel Marcel)

- Peace comes not through human command, not as a consequence of the balance of opposing human forces, it is the opus of justice in the most truthful meaning of the word. (2nd Vatican Council)
