Welcome to The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show
Radio Play Archive

What occurs each show is that whatever guests appear on it, play whatever characters they choose. But I am always Wendy. Now, there is still alot of work yet to do on these pages, but I'm working under the assumption that I'll be able to update and revise these pages. Any spelling mistakes and typos will have to stay, as these are exact copies of what the actors had to read from. I don't intentially leave mistakes, I'm just frazzle-headed. Enjoy what there is for now, however.

If it happens to be between 22h00 and 0h00 Eastern Time, download the latest installment of The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Radio Play and call (519) 837-2378 (837-CFRU).

part one- Matias and Brian were in the interview room for the most part, except for right at the beginning when Matt did tech in the broadcast booth and the rest of us performed the premier of "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Theme Song". Jorge, Devin, Mike and Joanna came later on to help with the first performance of "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Radio Play". They all did very well, though my prerecorded sound-effects didn't work out quite like I had anticipated.

part two- I gave away a dictionary of Newfoundland English on this show. It was part of the "Raise Your Voice" Fundraising drive. THe person who came up with the right definition of(or, if not, the best definition) "Irish Tooth-ache" won it. Christine won with her definition: "A longing for home", but it really means "to be pregnant". Also, for every five dollar donation, you got your name in the toque, with a chance to win a free, live hair cut by myself on "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show" of November 20, 1997.

part three
part four- With Matt Thurston in the Broadcasting Booth teching, I was allowed the freedom to cut Christine's hair (The winer of "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Raise Your Voice Fundraising Contest"). I brought in my Commodore monitor (which I broke on the way home) and my vcr, so that Christine could watch The Life of Brian, by Montey Python. Luckily "Forever Deaf" couldn't come in to do their show at 0:00h, because the hair cut took about two and a half hours. Thank God I brought my Electrolux to vacuum up the hair.

part five- Jeff Bird was the first big musician I had on the show. He was a great guest. He brought in his mandalin, and provided musical interludes whenever necessary. He also agreed to be the medium when Andrew the Physicist (?) had his tarot cards read by me. Oh, Dave was there too.

part six- Professer Lampert came into the show to critique the books entered into "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Book-Burning Party Contest". Devin and Mike form Us and Wilbur also came in to provide musical interludes and to play a couple of songs.

part seven- William Simpson came on the show to read some of his poems. Steven Fearing came to play some guitar and sing; he got there a little late because he was coming from Toronto and the roads were bad, and he left an hour early because he was tired. William helped console me after Steven left, because he was my first guest to leave prematurely. I must say though, that William had very good words to impart- hence he's a poet.

part eight- James Gordon and Randy-from-Newfoundland were on the show this night. Though James was the second guest on "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show" to leave early, I think he had a good time. Cybil the fifteen-year-old called the the first and last time that night, and provided the laugh track for "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Radio Play". Cybal promised to call again, but... never did.

part nine- Christmas! This is was the first show in a while that I did by myself, and the first show I ever pre-recorded. I was supposed to have carolers, but they couldn't show up for some reason. I mixed Christmas carols, remenisced about Christmases past, contemplated the holiday itself, and played all the characters for "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Radio Play". I had a good time. I even played along with some of the carols with the sleigh bells that Larry lent me. Actually, I played "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Radio Play Theme Song", and "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Theme Song" live; Or rather, I pre-recorded them live.

part ten- New Years! The first part was pretty mellow, with the first poem written specifically for the show by William Simpson; "22h00 till Midnight". Matt Thurston was the musical guest. IT was me and him. I was supposed to have some people from Newfoundland on the phone during their countdown, but that didn't work out. I did have a party call so that I could settle a bet about who originally performed... what song was that? Coming up to New Years, we had Matt's house call, where there was a party going on, so that we could have party sounds in the back ground.

part eleven- Devin was in the interview room with his guitar and Jim was in the broadcast room with me. Julie and James, who were working on "The Electric Green Show" when I got to the studio played characters on The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Radio Play, but then left. The rest of the night was really, really, really mellow

part twelve- Suzanne and Barzin were in the interview room; Barzin with guitar, and Suzanne with congo. Dave was in the broadcast room with me. Melisa was there too, but she didn't say alot. I taught Suzanne how to knit, verbally, through the Interview/Broadcast window. It was quite a challenge and effort which was rewarded with three calls to Sujata, who was in the office at the time, asking that I be stopped. It was great. Suzanne and Barzin provided a recipe for Coleslaw which will be in "The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Recipe Book" if I ever get it started. As well, they gave me a touque after the show to replace the one I had lost; the one I had had for five years. Unfortunately, I managed to lose the one they gave me too. Please don't tell them. They were very nice to give it to me. It just wasn't a very good winter for touques for me.

part thirteen- Karma Repair managed to find room in the interview room for drums, guitars and bass. It was an interesting dynamic being outnumbered by four guys who could drown me out at the drop of a touque. I didn't try to fight them very often, however(though it was fun to try), because I was enjoying their songs very much. And they gave me a sticker after the show. They also won tickets for some show in Toronto I was oddly provided, given them by the caller who actually won the little contest that was held for them. The contest consisted of some weird marine biology question posed to Jeff of Karma Repair by the caller who obviously knew Jeff, and the fact that he would know the answer.

part fourteen- Mikey Conroy and Matias Silva were on the show. Mikey played guitar and sang some very good songs, including his cow song. It took some goading to get him to perform the latter, but eventually he did when Brian, his brother, called in and provided sound effects. Matias had found part of a book under a bus seat about a dog who, once released from his leash, had the opportunity to visit a familiar park or go on towards a land of paradise which he may never achieve. We contemplated what the dog might of done.

part fifteen- Sheila Gruner, Mike O'Connel and Jim Vernon came on the show; the former two with their intstruments. They came late from Jeff Bird's house, who called in to let Jim and I know they were coming. They were very good guests. Mike was interested in who I might rather be killed by: Ed Asner, or Nelli (I can't remember her last name, but she was one of the suffragettes). I said the latter, because it was her who helped me understand the significance of "Suffragette City" by Bowie. I love Bowie.

part sixteen- Katey, with guitar, John Draak, president of the Guelph Humanist Club, and Dave Freisan, who read some of his poetry, came on and made a very interesting mixture. Phone John called in and talked a bit with Humanist John. Al well, a nice girl, who new a bit about the energy all people exhude, called in and explained how the world is seperated into grids and how there's concetrations of energy in places like Guelph. John Draak was very excited about the Book-Burning party, and so I said he could go. Dave read some very good poetry. And Kate was a great Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Musical Director.

part twenty-two
part twenty-three
part twenty-four
part tweny-five
part twenty-six- A big blow-out, no-holds-barred jamboree with Devin and Jim. The basic concept was never to stop jamming, and to only sing when one wished to speak. The plan sort of fell through, but it was a good effort I thought. Jenni was supposed to call too, but she didn't. I got depressed and ended the show early.

part twenty-seven- I managed to get an interview with The Honky-Tonk Man of WWF Wrestling at The Manor, and Ron Hawkins at The Albion. Sujata was around, coming back from CFRU's General Meeting. She said I missed it because I don't put things in a day-timer. Actually, she was more implying that I don't plan much of anything. She may be right.

part twenty-eight-Rebecca, Guelph's most preeminent Beatnik, and Dally, Host of "The Difficult Listening Hour" on Tuesday @ 23h00, came on the show. Dally was in the production room, and Rebecca was in the broadcasting booth with me. Rebecca read her beat poetry, and Dally provided interesting sounds (I don't know what he was doing in there). Hopefully, they'll both be on again.

part twenty-nine- It was just Rebecca and I, though she left early. I'm used to that now. I learned about Rebecca's plan to begin a zine dedicated to others' art.

part thirty- Trevor came on the show. He's moving up north soon to manage a Gecko's. He dances. We used to do children's shows together. Someone called later on to tell me that people were listening. And Tao (I'm not sure if that's how it's spelled. It sounds like tae-oh) called in, first talking about blowing pins out of pens, and ending with how he and his friend tried to make a bomb.

part thirty-one- It was myself and Sylvia Senensky for the first half. She's a Jungian Analyst. I was happy when she dropped her microphone- it allowed me a look at myself. Later on I played my interview with Michael from Danko Jones.

part thirty-two- Dave Humphrey accompanied me on the show.  Ducan called in from Barcelona Spain and participated in The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show Radio Play.  Then he stayed on for another good thirty minutes.  He'll be in Guelph soon, at which time I'm going to buy him a beer.

party thirty-three- After missing last weeks show for the first time in it's history without prerecording it (it was local music day, and so I would have missed it anyway; but I had a fishing trip planned too- serendipitous), I did everything twice on this show.  I had two show, and radio play theme songs, as well as two plays- unprecidented.  Also, the first play was written by a guest writer, Devin Armstrong- also unprecidented.  I was alone most of the show, and had no phone calls;  except for Devin later on.  He interviewed me concerning the children's show we're doing at the Hillside Festival this year.

part thirty-four- Danny and Eddie cam on and played some of their songs.  They both had guitars,  great harmonizing, good music and good lyrics.  They were good all round.  Rachel, who filled in for the previous show, stuck around for mine.  An all around interesting evening.  Danny and Eddie tried something unprecidented on The Wednesday @ 22:00h Show, which was to plug their instruments into a mixer and the mixer into the Broadasting channel.  It was exciting.

part thirty-five- Canada Day!!!  Once again the show falls on a holiday.  Duncan, who called in from Spain for Installment thirty-two, was on the show in Guelph.  Ines, also from Spain (visiting our country) was here.  Johnathon, who just arrived from out west after a long journey through the states, and Amy, who just lives in Guelph but is an interesting person in her own right, and Nathalie, my financial advisor from the Investors Group, were all on the show as well.  We performed a live rendition of the National Anthem, with Duncan on Guitar and Ines on percussion.  The Broadcast Booth, Interview Room and Production Room were all in use giving it a party atmosphere.

part thirty-six -Rebecca was back, after successfully publishing the first issue of the publication currently known as Seen.  William Simpson was on as well.  They both read their own poetry.  It was an enjoyable evening.

part thirty-seven -Duncan was on the show in the interview room with a crazy guitar.  Melisa was in the booth with me.  L.J., a father, fish-owner, former team-member of both the Bowie's Sound and Vision Tour, and U2's Zoo TV, and a very nice fellow, called from his home in Toronto (first from a living area of some sort, then from his bedroom as he prepared for sleep).  Sujata surprosed me with a call from Montreal before L.J. called.  She read the lines for Any-Name-Beginning-With-"A", while I prerecorded them for that nights Radio play with L.J. (you can't have two people on the line, on air at CFRU.)   The following week she was going to be in Calgary and said she might be calling from there.  I hope she does.

part thirty-eight- Sujata called from out west on her way further.  (Sujata, maybe if you could send me the names of the towns, as I've forgotten already, I could edit this paragraph.  Unfortunately, I hadn't uploaded the latest version of the radio play early enough for Sujatat to play a character.  Robert, who I met via email, came on the show and related some very interesting facts about the secret workings of the government. Duncan was kind enough to call in an play a couple of characters.

part thirty-nine - Robert was on once again to relate an interesting story about his phone bill, and he also provided some technical support.  Crack came on as well to play some songs, and to eventually record a station ID.  They consist of Kate Richmond, Triston O'Malley, Nathan and someone else named Jonathon who was working that night.  Unprecidentally, they played along live with a prerecorded song they had brought along.

part forty -Rebecca came on the show and announced the publication of the second edition of the publication currently known as seen.  She had to leave half way, however, due to extreme fatigue.  I just played music for the rest of the night.

part forty-one -Chris didn't call from New York City.  But Brothers Walter and Michael from The Church of The Universe were on the show.  David Freason came on as well.  It was very enjoyable.  You can read Brothers Walter's and Michael's twenty-one gun salute, proposed actions to be taken by the PC party.

part forty-two - Robert came on the show, and we talked about many things, as is Roberts way.  Devin called from out west during his tour with Us and Wilbur.  It was an enjoyable show.

 part forty-three (the last show)
