Training

Rosewood Stable offers training to a limited number of horses
each month. Marie is the trainer of the Champion
Introductory Dressage Horse for 2006, 2007 and 2008. The 2006 Champion Training Level for NGDD and Reserve
Champion Training Level for OADG. When training horses we take into account the fitness level of
the horse. We try to avoid using a round pen in our training. We
prefer to form a relationship with our horses. We like to start them out
on the lunge line because everyone owns a lunge line. We then like to start
ground driving to allow the horse to accustom themselves to the contact of the
bit and movement around their body. Gradually working our way into the
saddle by reading the horses body language, so the experience is positive and
safe. Our training sessions vary in length from 20 minutes to about
an hour. A young horse will need a shorter training session, their fitness
level will be low and there attention span will be shorter. We never like
to wear our horses out, when they start to tire is when we stop the training
session. A tired horse is more prone to injury. We have been
successfully re-starting and backing horses. We continually produce calm,
willing and rideable horses.
Our fees for training horses are as follows and do not
include board.
1/2 hr training session $10.00 includes tacking and un-tacking.
1 hr training session $20.00 includes tacking and un-tacking.
